Counseling
At Clove Alliance, we believe every survivor can create their own new beginning when armed with hope and a safe space to heal. Our counselors work to provide support, empowerment, and recovery to survivors of sexual violence—and the people who love them—along their healing journey. Like all Clove Alliance services, counseling is free, confidential, and aims to create a feeling of safety and trust in every interaction. Counseling services are offered in-person, by video, and/or telephone and are solely focused on an individual’s sexual trauma.
Please contact [email protected] or call 815.932.7273 for more information about these services.
A Path to Healing
Sexual violence affects survivors’ lives in many ways. Feelings of sadness, anger, fear, vulnerability, and guilt are common. Sometimes these issues surface years after the abuse or assault and can be confusing, causing a survivor to struggle in many areas of their life—both personally and in relationships. Our counselors assist in the process of recognizing how sexual violence has impacted the survivor’s feelings, relationships, self-esteem, and ability to function while working alongside the survivor to promote healing.
Survivors commonly receive help in counseling with issues such as:
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
- Rape Trauma Syndrome
- Depression
- Fears & Anxiety
- Nightmares
- Eating Disorders
- Self-injury
- Dissociation
- Trust and Safety Issues
- Self-esteem
- Relationship Issues with Family and Intimate partners
Survivors may choose to receive individual, family, couple, and/or group counseling. In addition, support groups are offered to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, teen survivors, and parents of survivors.
Information and Intake Process
Clove Alliance’s client screening and intake process is designed to ensure that we are able to provide the most effective services to our clients. The process also helps to protect the safety of clients and staff.
Here are some additional details about each step in the process:
Screening: The screening is a brief conversation that helps Clove Alliance determine if the client is a good fit for our services. A staff member will ask the survivor about their needs, goals, and resources.
Intake interview: The intake interview is a more in-depth conversation with a staff member and helps them get to know the survivor and their needs. The staff member will ask about their history, goals, and resources, and will also assess the client’s risk for harm to themselves or others.
Referral: If Clove Alliance cannot provide the services that a survivor needs, they will refer the survivor to another agency or provider. A staff member will work with the survivor to find a provider that is a good fit.
